Reem Zohny, LMSW
Supervised by Mary Lynn Marinucci, LCSW-S
Welcome! I’m so happy that you are taking this step towards bettering your mental health. In many ways, this step can be the most difficult one and I would love to take it with you. Life can be overwhelming, with so much happening externally-between work, school, family, and all of our obligations. It can be easy to neglect what’s happening internally with ourselves. Everyone approaches the challenges in their lives and internalizes it differently. I strive to give my clients a safe place to explore their internal world and to grow towards finding fulfillment in their everyday life. I work to accomplish this with you as we develop an understanding of your strengths and coping mechanisms. We will work together to identify these and determine if they are continuing to serve you well. I will do my best to provide techniques that will empower you throughout your life.
My promise to you is to always offer genuineness, empathy, and a non judgemental ear while we work together to identify the behaviors that have and haven’t been working for you. You are the expert on your experience, and my role varies from helping examine patterns that may exist to helping you uncover the wisdom you already hold.
My background has given me an artillery of information and tools to help those struggling. I completed my Masters in Social Work at Columbia University, a heavily social justice oriented program. During my time there, I studied different issues including racism, intergenerational trauma, strength based therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. In addition, I am well versed in attachment styles and how they present in relationships, as well as anxiety, depression, and grief. In the past, I have worked in school settings, spending a lot of time working with children on social skills and barriers to their success. However, I enjoyed the time I spent connecting with parents and colleagues about their experiences just as much. For that reason, I chose to work with individuals outside of the school setting and am beyond excited to embark on this path.
In choosing to work with me, know that you will be entrusted to a person who is open minded and invested in you and your future.
