“Insist on yourself…” Ralph Waldo Emerson
I work with individuals and couples that are seeking relief from painful patterns or emotions in their lives. I have experience with trauma, childhood and family of origin issues, relational issues, career or family pressures, anxiety, and goals of self-exploration and self-actualization. I find that clients engaging in therapy often gain a clearer vision of themselves and a clearer sense of where and how they apply their energy in their lives.
In my perspective, therapy is a rich, vast, and complex process that unfolds in a unique way for everyone. We will invite the fullness of your experience, including the confusion and the contradictions, and move toward greater and greater alignment with the authentic self. I prioritize treating ourselves well first and foremost, and taking measured risks so that we can collect information and expand into greater harmony with our lives and desires.
We are full and unique beings. Not damaged, not incomplete, not deficient or defective. Not wrong. In fact we make perfect sense. Our work will include understanding how even our most difficult areas make perfect sense. We can come to understand these difficult areas and then use that intelligence more purposefully toward what we desire.
So we can discover ourselves, we can discover what we like, what we don’t like, our judgments, our desires, and our confusions. We can discover ourselves as if we’re coming to know a beloved friend. We will listen carefully to the wisdom that your emotions, your reactions, your body sensations, and your behavior and judgements are offering us in every moment and we will move toward greater ease and joy as your life comes to rest on the truth of your authentic nature, character, and capacities.
A few things I’ve discovered about my own joys include good music and good food. I delight in the spirit and magic of my daughters. I have an emerging curiosity for good lighting, the effect of color, and texture. The potential and creativity possible in relationships is wondrous and nourishing to me. I am excited by the power of community. I also love climbing trees.
