“The hardest part of any journey is the first step.”
Asking for help is an act of bravery. I’m glad you’re here. I strive to create a warm, safe environment where you can feel comfortable being vulnerable. Through compassionate listening and empathetic support we can help you create the person that you want to be.
Are you wondering how you can better work with your ADHD? Whether you have been diagnosed or just have symptoms - you can benefit from learning strategies. When your thought process is a bit outside the norm, you can also benefit from learning to practice self-acceptance and self-compassion.
As a school counselor I found that boys often lack a safe place in their personal life to share their losses, pains and struggles. Boys would often tell me that they didn’t want to admit to friends that they were, say, struggling with a breakup or a toxic relationship. This got me interested in studying how we raise boys and how to help males feel safe in asking for help so that they can lead more fulfilling lives.
As part of my Cognitive Behavioral usage, I do sometimes give homework. This will allow you to practice skills that can promote the changes you want. I also practice Solution–Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and am beginning to utilize Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Intuitive Eating.
I completed my masters in counseling at UTSA in 2010. After my December graduation I moved to Al Ain, UAE, where I taught kindergarten to Emirati children for a year and half. Since August of 2012, I have been working as a school counselor in the Austin area. I was born into a multicultural household with one parent from a Chicana Catholic background the other from a German Jewish one. My life experiences help me to be a sensitive companion for BIPOC clients. I am also an ally to LBGTQ+ communities.
If you think we would work well together, please reach out to me at 512/201-4501, ext. 267. I look forward to the chance to work with you!
