Katia Husemann Olivares, LPC Associate

Supervised by Sharon Bien, LPC

Senior Counselor

I navigate from the belief that we all have a personal story to tell, make sense of, and hopefully heal from. As a counselor, my hope is that you can find that space in our sessions.

A major principle that guides my work is the belief that you are the expert of your own experience. To better support you, I place particular importance in the relationship you and I can build and see this dynamic as the place where change can happen. My role is to meet you where you are to better understand what you’re going through, explore alternative ways of dealing with challenges or consider different pathways that are available to you. As weird as it might sound, it is often when we allow space and acknowledge what we’re going through that things begin to change.

Most importantly, therapy with me involves being heard, accepted and fully committed to your process. In our sessions, I draw from the person-centered and psychodynamic approaches as I believe our inner worlds play an important part in how we come to understand ourselves and others. I have very much enjoyed working with adults in different therapeutic settings and found grief and loss, life transitions and relationship issues to be the place where I belong.

To share my experience: I found home in Austin although my Mexican accent travelled with me! I received my Bachelors degree in Social Science from Bond University in Australia and moved to the UK afterwards where I gained a Masters degree in Counseling from The University of Edinburgh. Outside of therapy you can find me hiking and camping with my husband and exploring the different coffee shops Austin has to offer.

With an acceptant and supportive space, therapy can be a place of healing and empowerment. If you feel like we’d be a good fit or have any questions, please give me a call at 512/201-4501, ext. 248. I look forward to supporting you in your process.
