“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing that we will ever do.” Brené Brown
Hi there! My name is Jana and I want to welcome you to Therapy Austin! It takes a courageous person to reach out for help and to challenge oneself to change. A willingness to be open to the experience of discovering yourself is a very vulnerable and brave thing to do! I believe that by tapping into our potential, we can live happier, more meaningful lives.
I work from a client-centered approach, where you can expect that your individual experiences will be paramount. I also understand that the therapeutic relationship is essential for change to take place. I recognize that every individual is unique and that your experiences hold the key to personal growth and development. It is very important to provide you a safe, open and non-judgmental atmosphere where you can feel at ease in sharing your thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. It’s an honor and a privilege to listen to my client’s stories. I know first-hand how scary it may look, but I also know how rewarding it can be. Having a voice and being heard is where healing can take place. My hope is to provide this safe space for you.
I am experienced in working with individual adults who are struggling with trauma and substance abuse. My approach is to help you recognize and develop your personal values, your unique strengths, and your creativity. Together, we can establish clear objectives based on the specific issues and needs that you would like to address. Goal-setting is a process that can help you turn a future vision into a reality. If you aren’t sure of what your goals are, we can work together to clarify what they are, setting realistic steps.
As a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor, I have worked in treatment centers for substance use, dual diagnosis and trauma-informed services for almost a decade. Prior to coming to Austin Therapy, I also worked with individual clients at an agency in Central Austin. I look forward to working with clients who struggle with stress, anxiety, substance use, low self-esteem, personal growth, life transitions, and spirituality.
My career has been quite the journey! I received my bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management in 1997, where I worked for Marriott and Hilton Hotels for 12 years. In 2009, I moved to Austin to continue my own personal recovery, realizing I had a deep passion for helping others. In 2014, I received my license in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Austin Community College. In 2019, I earned my Master’s in Professional Counseling from St. Edward's University and became an LPC.
Apart from therapy, I am a committed Jazzercise girl! (a little like Zumba, but I’m no Jane Fonda!) I also love Yoga and am a HUGE animal lover. I have two cats named Snowy and Casper, who are my precious babies, and a black lab named Oreo! I love hiking and swimming, and I am also a BIG music lover who is proud to call Austin my home.
