Group Therapy

AT Therapy Austin

If you haven’t personally experienced a therapy group, you may have impressions from shows or movies about how it works. Sometimes those can be helpful and sometimes not so helpful. (For example, at Therapy Austin, you may be sitting in a circle with other people struggling with the same issues, but you won’t be sitting in a darkened room lit by fluorescent bulbs wearing a name tag and asked to join a Fight Club).

Group therapy has been around for a long time and is an effective way to address issues like anxiety, depression, body image, and relationship struggles - issues most people struggle to manage alone. The truth is, we often get more out of group-learning than solo-efforts. Bonus: group therapy costs less per session than individual therapy!

  • Neurodivergent DBT Group

When: Mondays from 6:15-7:45 (Starting in April) 8 Weeks

    Where: Therapy Austin Highland Location

    Cost per session: $50

This is an 8-Week, in-person DBT skills training group catered toward neurodivergent individuals. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based treatment modality for folks that experience emotions very intensely. Our group will focus on teaching and practicing the 4 main DBT skills of Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness, and Emotion Regulation. These skills are not always presented in a neurodivergent-friendly manner, can be difficult for individuals to implement, or require accommodations to typical DBT curriculum. We hope to create a space that considers this reality and actively works towards more inclusive learning. If you identify as neurodivergent, have trouble with anxiety, depression, or managing difficult emotions, this group is for you!  This group will be led by two Fully-Licensed Senior Counselors that identify as neurodivergent.

Andrew-Waller-De La Rosa (he/him) specializes in issues related to neurodiversity (ADD/Autism). His general therapeutic approach is rooted in depth psychology, existentialism, and biopsychosocial models, such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Matty Jernigan (they/them) specializes in working with developmental and relational trauma, LGBTQ+ folks, and neurodiverse clients. Their therapeutic approach incorporates an anti-oppressive lens, mindfulness, parts-work, and behavioral skills (CBT/DBT/ACT).

  • Weekly Process Group

This group is full and not accepting clients right now

    When: Mondays from 6:15-7:45 p.m.

    Where: Virtually on Zoom

Cost: $50 per session, long-term, ongoing group

Therapy Austin’s ongoing weekly psychoanalytic psychotherapy group for adults is seeking new members!

Group therapy is an effective way to address issues of anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, and addictive behaviors (and more!) The idea behind group therapy is that the unique experience of being in a community with peers allows people to benefit in ways that individual therapy, by nature, cannot address in the same way. For example, group members can learn to give and receive feedback from other members, increase self-awareness and gain insight by being around others with similar struggles, practice active listening skills, reduce feelings of loneliness, and learn to receive support and create connections.

Bonus: Group learning is a unique (and more affordable) way to participate in deep inner work.
