Welcome. I’m glad you’ve clicked your way here. Asking for help can be hard. Getting the right kind of help can be even harder. Hopefully I can help with that. My name is Gus. I see couples and individuals experiencing a wide range of concerns. If you’re not sure therapy is right for you, or if I’m the right therapist for you, I’d love to help you navigate those decisions.
Because people are unique and different, so are my sessions. Working together, we will continually center therapy to meet you where you need. No matter the content or the process, you can expect respect and support from me. I am LGBTQ+ affirming and work from a stance of cultural humility.
In my practice, I draw from a wide variety of theory and research-backed techniques. I particularly enjoy working with the interplay between thoughts, behaviors, the body, and emotions. With individuals, I often pull from cognitive-behavioral, narrative, existential, and interpersonal neurobiological approaches. With couples, I tend to work systemically and experientially. If you aren’t sure what any of these terms mean, I’d love to explain them to you.
Now for a little about me: I was born in Austin and have lived here my entire life. I’ve built my career around my value for social justice and my interest in human development. I studied psychology at UT, worked for a few years, and then went on for my master’s in counseling at St. Edward’s. Along the way, I worked for several years with children with special needs in various settings.
Outside of therapy, you might find me hiking with my partner, playing tabletop games with friends, or spending time with my family. Recently, I’ve enjoyed listening to soul music, watching animated movies, and painting (badly).
