Welcome to Therapy Austin!
If there is a phrase that sums up my underlying philosophy of therapy, it is: “Successful people work on themselves.”
I love this phrase because Austin, Texas is a very mental health-savvy city, and many people who want to “get unstuck” and realize their full potential use therapy as a tool towards achieving their goals. Whether you want to overcome obstacles, understand and manage your emotions more effectively, make changes, heal from the past or are simply interested in personal growth, I would love to accompany you on your journey.
In my practice, I strive to support individuals in uncovering their barriers to change and growth, and help them to develop new, useful skills so that they can thrive. I have worked with people on a variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, ADHD, life transitions, trauma, grief and loss, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, work/school challenges, and changing behaviors, to name a few. What matters to me most is that your experience of therapy is one in which your values are affirmed and you can discuss what is really on your mind in a place of compassion and respect. I have the highest regard for those I work with and welcome your opinions, cultural norms and religious/spiritual beliefs, whatever they may be.
Since I consider the therapy methods I use to be instrumental in getting results, I have deliberately pursued training in a variety of established therapy modalities, including EMDR therapy, DBT and CBT. EMDR therapy is especially effective for getting to the root of an issue, healing painful experiences and enhancing personal performance, while DBT and CBT are great for learning new coping skills to make life in general more manageable. I am also interested in how the brain works and take time to explore with individuals how to optimize results by using brain-based strategies.
My life experience outside of my formal therapy training has also richly informed my work as a counselor. Having worked in non-counseling career fields, I understand from personal experience many of the pressures and challenges of the business world. Drawing from this experience and my therapy training, I have helped people explore career options, identify professional strengths and navigate difficult work situations. I have also lived abroad and in several locations around the United States, which gives me a sincere appreciation for other cultures as well as an understanding of what it is like to transition to a new place.
Having lived in many places, I am glad to call Austin “home.” I received my undergraduate degree in German from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Master’s of Science in Social Work (MSSW) degree at the University of Texas in Austin. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with experience working in inpatient and intensive outpatient treatment settings, as well as social service agencies and medical centers. In addition to my work as a therapist, I have experience in project management, vendor management, accounting and customer service. In my free time, I enjoy reading, laughing, and spending time, preferably outdoors, with my husband, family and friends.
